I'd also recommend, Glenys, that before you try to upgrade the storage, back up your iMac. Oh, and that kind of money would get you a 2 TB SSD, which would be double the standard storage. Of course, you could take it to a company and have them do it.

You could get a Fusion Drive, which combines an SSD and HD (for a slight speed increase) or you just go straight to an SSD (solid state drive) which would speed up boot time and overall access time. According to, this model of iMac uses a1 TB HD (Hard Drive) at 7200 Rpm. You have the max ram possible, and you can't upgrade the processors, as far as i know.
